Make the Hunter Harvest Survey easier with a small trip record

Organise licence-specific notes before opening HAL, then verify submission instead of assuming a saved draft is complete.

Who this helps
Hunters preparing required survey responses, including those who did not go hunting or did not harvest an animal.
Next useful action
Check the survey instructions and your own HAL record for each relevant licence, then gather the notes needed for its questions.

Start from the licence rather than a general reminder

The current provincial page instructs hunters to complete the required survey for each purchased licence, including when they did not hunt. Make a private inventory of the licences you actually hold and check the instructions and period for each one. This resource was reviewed on November 2, 2026. It does not assign every survey a single deadline or turn an old reminder into the rule for a different licence.

Make the smallest useful record after each trip

Keep a dated line for the activity, relevant area, effort and harvest information you will need to answer the actual survey. Use the official form’s categories rather than inventing a reporting system from memory. If a trip involved several areas, preserve the distinction while it is fresh. A quiet day still deserves an accurate note; record what happened rather than filling an empty cell with an estimate you cannot explain.

Collect the questions before collecting extra data

Open the provincial instructions and follow the official route to your own HAL surveys. Compare the questions with the private trip notes, then identify only the missing items. Do not copy full licence identifiers into a public spreadsheet to coordinate a group. If another person helps, keep their role clear and review the response yourself. Ask the responsible service how to handle a genuine uncertainty instead of inventing a plausible answer.

Treat submission as its own step

Complete the applicable form and look for the service’s confirmation or status showing that it has been submitted. A browser tab left open, a screenshot of entered answers or a local note saying done is not the same evidence. Record the completion date and any reference the system provides in your private index. When a connection fails, return through the official service and check the existing status before trying again.

  • Check every relevant licence row.
  • Resolve missing or contradictory trip notes.
  • Verify the final submission state in the official service.

Use the review to improve next season’s notes

Compare the information the survey asked for with what was easy or difficult to recover. Add one useful field to the trip notebook, then remove unnecessary personal detail from shared planning documents. Survey data supports wildlife-management work, but your individual response remains a record of your own activity. Keep the original evidence and a route to the official instructions so a later correction or question can be handled clearly.
